What is a Doula?

What is a doula?
Doulas are non-medical professionals trained to support families through pregnancy-related experiences such as birth, miscarriage or stillbirth.

Birth and postpartum doulas are professionals who support and assist families through this process, helping to ease the new life that arrives with the baby.

Scientific studies examining doula-supported care show that having a doula significantly improves physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Doulas have a positive effect on the wellbeing of the whole family.

Doulas are people who provide you with emotional and physical support during your pregnancy and birth. Doulas are not medical professionals. They are not responsible for delivering the baby or providing medical care. A certified doula completes a training programme on how to support pregnant women and their families through this exciting yet challenging experience, and goes through a series of training sessions.
