Birth Doula Support

BIRTH DOULA SERVICES

Birth doulas support women planning any type of birth — from a planned caesarean to an early epidural birth to a home water birth — as well as those giving birth and their families.

During the antenatal period, a birth doula usually meets with the family at least twice, and phone or email support is provided whenever questions or concerns come up. This gives you the chance to voice your concerns, learn about your birth preferences and get to know your birth doula.

When labour pains start or symptoms are felt, you let me know and we can arrange the meeting place and time.

During the active phase of labour (after 5cm dilation or once contractions start becoming stronger), I come to your home or the hospital and support you during the birth and through the first 3 breastfeeding sessions afterwards. I don’t carry out any medical intervention during the birth and I don’t act as an intermediary with the birth team. My only role is to increase the mother’s comfort and help her cope with pain. If I’m unable to attend the birth for reasons that are not my fault, my doula fee is still covered.

Details about the birth doula service will be provided to you in the birth doula service agreement.
